Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chiropractic and why is it different?
There’s nothing mysterious about chiropractic. It’s a natural method of health care that focuses on correcting the causes of physical problems, rather than just treating the symptoms. Chiropractic is different; it works with the nervous system. Your nervous system is like a computer it’s able to process information rapidly and then relay information back and forth between your brain and body. Good health depends upon having your spine and nervous system functioning at their best. Chiropractic is committed to improving this flow of information naturally. We understand you can’t focus on sickness and disease and expect health and wellness to prevail. That is why we look at your body as a whole, self-healing system and how well you are functioning. Our job is to find the cause rather than just focusing on symptoms or how you are feeling. With a normal functioning spine and a healthy nerve system, your body is better able to heal itself. That’s because your spine is the lifeline of your nervous system. It controls feeling, movement, and all functions throughout your body.
Is chiropractic safe?
Yes, Chiropractic is simple, safe and scientific. It works with your body and its amazing ability to keep you healthy by detection and correcting vertebral subluxations. According to a New Zealand government inquiry, chiropractic care is remarkably safe. In relation to caring for neck and back pain, studies have shown that a course of chiropractic care was 250 times safer than a course of anti-inflammatory drugs. However, it is important to note that while chiropractic has an excellent safety record based on drug free, non-invasive care, no form of healthcare is entirely free of all risk.
What is subluxation?
Subluxation is the most common condition cared for by chiropractors. A subluxation is the result of spinal bones with improper motion or position affecting nerve communications between your brain and your body. A subluxation is a stress response, Muscles go into spasm, Spinal bones lock up and adjacent nerves are choked or chafed. This interferes with the control and regulation of your body as it distorts communications between the brain and other parts of your body. Your nervous system controls every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. These nerve impulses travel through your spine so having a spine free of subluxations is essential for optimal health. Subluxations are the most common cause of interference to the flow of nerve messages orchestrating all body functions; they are also one of the most commonly overlooked contributors to back pain. There are generally three basic causes of subluxations. Physical causes like slips and falls, accidents, repetitive motions, and improper lifting. Stress, anger and fear are examples of emotional causes of subluxations. Alcohol, drugs, pollution and poor diet can be chemical causes of subluxations.Chiropractic uses a series of adjustments to reduce vertebral subluxations, recalibrating your nervous system and with time chiropractic builds strength into your health. The time frame to correct subluxations varies by the individual. Only a chiropractic examination can detect and only chiropractic adjustments can reduce their effect to your nervous system, naturally. Find out if you have subluxations before they become more serious and more difficult to correct.
How come I’ve never heard of subluxations before?
True, subluxations have not received the press that say, AIDS, cancer, cholesterol or heart disease have. However, subluxations are just as important and are often the underlying cause of a wide variety of health problems.
Can I tell if I have a subluxation?
Not always. A subluxation is like a dental cavity–you may have it for a long time before symptoms appear. That’s why periodic spinal checkups are so important. Although it may be possible to know you have a subluxation, it is rarely possible to be sure you don’t. Regular spinal checkups are always a good idea, and they promote good health from the inside out.
What is Brain-based care?
Brain-based therapy (BBT) is an amazing, new, powerful, all-natural healing technique used to restore people to their best neurological health.Your brain controls every function in your body and your body provides feedback to your brain if the communication between your brain and your body breaks down so can your health. The brain works as a whole mind-body loop.Your health, well-being, physical vitality, mental clarity and emotional stability are all directly correlated with proper brain function in the brain loop.It is vital that your brain receives clear sensory information from the body. The body sends information through the spinal cord to the back of the brain called the cerebellum which when functioning correctly sends normal input to the brain’s frontal lobes they in turn sends vital input to the lower brainstem (the mesencephalon) to keep it from over firing putting the body in alarm and fight/flight mode. This shift to survival mode is highly energy intensive and blocks the good- grow, heal and repair signals necessary for good health and great enjoyment of life. With our in-depth neurological exams that look a certain parts of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system, Dr. Watkins can locate and focus in, like a laser beam, treatments for those specific areas to alleviate many conditions.Common problems caused by an over firing in the brains mesencephalon or problem with cerebellum are:

  • insomnia and fatigue
  • chronic pain
  • light sensitivity
  • migraines
  • racing heart
  • constipation and diarrhea
  • urinary tract infections
  • fibromyalgia
  • sciatica
  • Dizziness, vertigo and balance disorders
  • back pain neck pain
  • disc bulges/ herniation’s
How can we help?
Brain-based care is not a specific treatment for any disease illness or disorder we do not try to cure anything our expertise lies in naturally and holistically rewiring your brain so your body can begin healing again. Treatments are neurologically based and clinically proven to help with chronic pain, balance disorders, fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia, low immunity, learning and memory problems. Imagine how different your life would be if you were free from the burdens that your condition causes you.
Do I have to keep going for the rest of my life?
This question comes up frequently when the topic of chiropractic is discussed. It is only partially true. You only have to continue going to the chiropractor as long as you wish to maintain the health of your neuromusculoskeletal system. Going to a chiropractor is much like going to the dentist, exercising at a gym, or eating a healthy diet: As long as you keep it up, you continue to enjoy the benefits. Many years ago, dentists convinced everyone that the best time to go to the dentist is before your teeth hurt, that routine dental care will help your teeth remain healthy for a long time. The same is true of chiropractic care for your spine. It is important to remember that, just like your teeth, your spine experiences normal wear and tear as you walk, drive, sit, lift, sleep, and bend. Routine chiropractic care can help you feel better, move with more freedom, and stay healthier throughout your lifetime. Although you can enjoy the benefits of chiropractic care even if you receive care for a short time, the real benefits come into play when you make chiropractic care a part of your wellness lifestyle.
What can I expect?
Vertebral subluxations affect people in different ways; therefore the results achieved by each individual will vary. Your body has an incredible capacity to heal itself. Many people find they have more energy, they sleep better, have better concentration, or a greater ability to resist disease and illness. Other people find their headache, neck or back pain, significantly diminish. Most people are in fact delighted with the success they have with chiropractic. No wonder so many health conscious people are making chiropractic part of their lifestyle. It’s natural.
